Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, has assured the Minority Caucus that the government will not exceed its target of 60 ministers.
Speaking during Friday’s Parliamentary sitting, Mr Ayariga emphasised that despite the concerns raised by the Minority, the administration remains committed to its earlier pledge made while in opposition.
He accused the Minority of harbouring “diabolical intentions” to politicise the issue should the number of ministers surpass the promised ceiling.
Mr Ayariga reiterated that the government’s resolve is to maintain discipline in ministerial appointments, in line with its commitment to efficiency and accountability.
The debate over the size of government has been a recurring topic in Ghana’s political discourse, with calls from civil society and opposition parties for leaner governance structures to reduce public expenditure.
