Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey in the company of the Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, joined other members of the United Nations (UN) to mark the first International Day for People of African Descent. 

Ghana's delegation also included MP for Abura –Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency, Elvis Morris Donkoh and Ghanaian Reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni.

The international event was held in Costa Rica on August 31, 2021.

The UN, through this gathering, seeks to promote extraordinary contributions of the African diaspora around the world and to eliminate all forms of discrimination against people of African descent.  

The programme was also attended by the President of Costa Rica, Carlos Andres Alvarado Quesada and his Vice Epsy Campbell Barr.

The International Day for People of African Descent witnessed a number of forums aimed at articulating the voices of people of African descent and those of other key actors in the region and the world around.

Topics such as the rights of people of African descent, combating racism and discrimination, among others, were discussed.
