Healthcare delivery at Ejisu Government Hospital has received a boost with new equipment to facilitate services.

A portable patient-monitoring machine, a maternal delivery bed, five wheelchairs and five ward screens are among the package.

The gesture from Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology forms part of activities for Scholars International Day of Service.

It is an occasion for scholars around the globe to give back to society.

Foundation President, Frederick Ennin, says the equipment was donated by scholars.

He says the foundation’s “projects are problem-solving based to ensure the beneficiary is really in need of the items.”

Medical Director, Dr. Isaac Brobbey-Kyei believes the items will positively impact community healthcare.

“The items are targeted at the healthcare delivery we provide and these are critical logistics that every health facility needs and the impact it will have on the clients is very great,” he noted.

Program Manager, Afia Amponsah Awuah, says the program is collaboration between foundations branches in Canada and KNUST.

It seeks to raise transformational leaders who will positively impact the continent.

She said the program has so far trained 750 students and targets to support 1,500 more in the next decade.

“As part of the program, we also take them through skills and entrepreneurial training so they can be equipped with transferable skills to set up their own business and train members of the community, we also encourage them to give back to their community from the benefit they receive from the program,” Madam Awuah said.

Previous donations have gone to Kumasi Children’s Home and Asakraka Community which benefitted from water supply system.

Some SHS students have also been trained to make liquid soap, tie and dye and other income generating initiatives.

Meanwhile, the program is accepting applications for brilliant but needy students.
