Alhaji Sulley Muniru, the father of Ghanaian international, Sulley Ali Muntari, has added his voice to the exclusion of his son from the list of Black Stars players for Angola 2010.
According to him, it was unfortunate that his son is not in the final 23-man squad to the Africa Cup of Nations, but that does not mean Sulley and his fans should not support the national team. “Every Coach has his system of selection,” he stated.
Speaking in an interview concerning issues of indiscipline raised against the Inter Milan Star, Alhaji Sulley Muniru admitted that though so many points of misdemeanour have been raised against his son, that does not mean he is indisciplined.
He admitted that Sulley, in recent times, has faced the wrath of Ghanaians on his behaviour, but he might have a reason for whatever he does.
“For me as a father, I have a responsibility to talk to him; I have talked; I have done my best. Even this time when you call him, he does not talk to the press. It is not that he is snobbish but because you can say one thing and it will be added to others to make it four. His is to concentrate and do his business as a professional player,” he said.
However, he believes that the coach, Milovan Rajevac, knows what to do, and ours as Ghanaians, is to give him the maximum support.
“He has his brothers and colleagues in the team, people like Essien, Gyan and Dramani, there are lots of them, so we all pray for them because all these boys; they are my children.”
Alhaji Sulley Muniru said the current African best player in Italy has not contacted him on his exclusion from the team. “Since he left Ghana after the last match, I have not spoken with him, he is on his professional career, so I don’t poke my nose into his business. When he calls to say hello, that’s all; it is his mother who always talk to him. I allow him to concentrate on his business. He has not communicated to me either,” he told Citi FM.
Sulley Ali Muntari and Stephen Appiah, two key members of the Ghanaian Senior National team, Black Stars, have been axed from the team, with Appiah’s exclusion based on his injury. Sulley Ali Muntari’s exclusion has been justified by the coach that he is not in form as reported by the media. However, many believe that, it is due to gross indiscipline in recent times.
