The Asogli State Council has clarified issues concerning the speech made by Togbe Afede XIV when the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) John Mahama paid a courtesy call at his palace.
According to the Council, some of Togbe Afede XIV’s comments have been misconstrued by the media, thus the need to clarify them.
“First, there was a report that Togbe Afede XIV said 'the country for almost four years under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo has seen joblessness'.”
This the Council says is inaccurate as the Chief only lamented about poverty and joblessness in the country generally “but did not make any mention of, or reference to, President Nana Akufo-Addo, the NPP government or any Political Party in his comment on poverty and joblessness.”
“Secondly, Togbe Afede XIV did speak about the recent deployment of soldiers and other security personnel in various parts of the Volta Region.”
According to the Council, Togbe had done so to address what he thought was the reason for government’s actions; “The lies that have been told about the importation of masses of people from neighbouring countries up to three weeks ahead of registration or voting.”
The Asogli State Council advised media houses to carefully report the truth in as much as they strive to report the news first.
It added that audio version of the full speech is in wide circulation thus members of the general public could listen and verify.
