The Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, is gradually becoming the breeding ground for people with mental disorders, as there is no day you would not meet one of these people in the municipality.
They have virtually turned junctions of major streets, traffic lights and the frontages of major shops in the municipality into their place of abode, without the city authorities taking any notice.
Some noticeable areas include the back of the Central Market and the frontage of the Melcom Shop among others.
Even though their activities are not harmful to residents, the sight at them as a visitor gives a different impression about the municipality.
To this end, the residents have called on the New Juaben Municipal Assembly to find a solution before it gets out of hand.
Many residents have expressed worry over this development, asking what had led to the sudden upsurge in the number of mentally impaired persons in the municipality.
Even though there was no scientific proof to support their assertion, many residents have attributed the situation to cyber fraud popularly known as "Sakawa," which as gained notoriety in the country in recent times, with Koforidua being no exception.
Meanwhile, the residents have suggested that the Assembly embarks on an exercise to get rid of them, since their presence would discourage tourists from visiting the region, which is blessed with many tourist sites.
