The Methodist Church Ghana, is hoping not only to win souls for Christian dorm but harness development in the Nkonya Traditional Area in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region as well.

The Church has, therefore, commissioned a borehole to indicate its commitment to achieving these objectives, after dedicating a chapel in Nkonya-Ntumda. The 100 seater Chapel in addition to a Sunday school shed and sanitary facilities took 8 months to complete.

The borehole facility is expected to end the perennial drought in the Nkonya area.

It would also contribute to curbing the outbreak of communicable diseases and ensure good health among residents.

The Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, said the church would develop a strategic plan towards harnessing development in the area.

“Our plans are very strategic in the sense that we have units that take care of all the social interventions that we’re noted for. One is education, health and other amenities like potable water, but here you see that after putting up the chapel, we’ve also provided community water for the people".

"We believe that by giving them potable water, we have taken away a lot of water-borne diseases that would’ve affected the people. Very soon the unit that deals with education will come and also survey the area and look at where we can start with schools, then we’ll come with either a clinic or health center", he detailed.

The Lay Chairman of the Tema Diocese, Brother Alfred Sakyi, and his wife, Mrs. Janet Sakyi, sponsored the project with GHC350,000, explaining that the motive was "to give back to God for the huge investment he has made in our lives."

He announced his commitment to establishing an entrepreneurial fund to help enroll members in skills training programmes and provide them with startup capital to enhance heir livelihood.

"Some people just need some basic vocational skills, some also need little capital injection, so one of the passions I have is to be able to help build an entrepreneurship fund in our Church so that the young people that are entrepreneurs and need capital injection will be supported in that area and it’s a project that we’re currently working on", he explained.

The Biakoye District Chief Executive Officer of Biakoye, Millicent Carboo, lauded the church on its role in partnering government to develop the country.

She, nonetheless, appealed to the top hierarchy of the Methodist Church Ghana, to consider establishing a tertiary institution in the district.
