Parliament's Committee on Communications is asking government to conduct further consultations on the proposed mobile phone talk time tax.
The committee wants government to also incorporate proposals from operators in order to reduce public apprehension.
The committee made the recommendation in Parliament on Thursday when the House approved GH¢18.5 million allocated to the Communications Ministry.
Committee chairman Mr. Kojo Armah said government ought to engage the public on the importance of the tax to ensure consensus when it is implemented.
The proposed tax has been heavily criticized by various groupings including mobile phone operators and students.
But Mr Armah believes public sensitization on the proposed tax would facilitate its implementation
Well incidentally as the House was about to discuss the allocation to the Ministry, the communications system in the chamber found a life of its own.
The microphones refused to function despite several attempts to fix them. The Speaker was left with no option but to adjourn proceedings for close to two hours. But Parliament's Director of Public Affairs Jones Kugblenu says the problem has been rectified and will not slow down the work of the House.
