The MTN Ghana Foundation is set to hand over a state-of-the-art 60-bed maternity and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) block to the Keta Municipal Hospital, marking a significant milestone in healthcare infrastructure development in the region.
The project, initiated with a sod-cutting ceremony in December 2022, is now complete and ready for official commissioning. The ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024, will be attended by key stakeholders, community leaders, and representatives from MTN Ghana Foundation.
In his speech at the sod-cutting ceremony in 2022, MTN CEO Selorm Adadevoh expressed his gratitude to the community for their patience and unwavering support for the commencement of the project. He highlighted the critical need for improved healthcare infrastructure in the region, particularly in maternal and neonatal care.
Adadevoh emphasized MTN's commitment to corporate social investment, citing healthcare as one of the foundation's three pillars. The completion of the 60-bed maternity and NICU block is a testament to MTN's dedication to improving access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
The project, with a total cost of approximately GHȼ15.2 million, represents the single largest investment by MTN Ghana Foundation in any health initiative since its establishment. The facility includes a 40-bed maternity ward equipped with emergency rooms, delivery wards, recovery rooms, and lie-in wards, as well as a 20-bed NICU.
Additional amenities within the block include two operating theatres, a hostel for mothers, consulting rooms, offices for nurses, reception and outpatient department areas, laboratory and dispensary facilities, among others.
The completion of this facility is expected to alleviate the burden on the existing healthcare infrastructure and provide much-needed relief to expectant mothers and hospital staff in the region.
As MTN prepares to hand over the completed facility to the Keta Municipal Hospital, the company has reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development.
The ceremony on March 7 will mark a significant milestone in MTN's ongoing efforts to support healthcare initiatives and improve the lives of people in Ghana.
The handover ceremony promises to be a momentous occasion, celebrating the successful completion of a project that will have a lasting impact on maternal and neonatal healthcare in the Keta Municipality.
The event will be attended by MTN officials, local dignitaries, healthcare professionals, and members of the community, underscoring the collective effort required to achieve meaningful change in healthcare delivery in Ghana.
