MTN Ghana on Tuesday April 14, launched a community phone at Sefwi Dwanease in the Western Region to offer the underprivileged a chance to use the services of the company.
According to MTN, its community phone is a new service that is designed to allow individuals in remote locations such as schools to use the MTN network to make and receive calls.
It also provides these individuals with a phone number and an MTN identity and the opportunity to access MTN’s value added services and limitless opportunities.
MTN said through the community phone service, individuals who could not afford to buy their own personal handsets are allowed to enjoy MTN mobile services.
The community phone service consists of a special community payphone and SIM that allows these customers access MTN’s voice, SMS and value added services.
Community phone SIM cards and the special recharge cards will be supplied to enable would-be subscribers to access the service and without a handset people in rural areas can access the MTN network wherever there is an MTN community payphone available.
MTN said calls can be made and sent with the special recharge cards on the payphones as well as sending and receiving SMS on the MTN network.
“This facility also makes it possible to receive into and retrieve voice calls from your own voicemail message service and also recharge an MTN prepaid account using a special MTN Community Phone recharge voucher.”
MTN said the introduction of the community phone and other services was a result of its drive to provide subscribers with a range of innovative world class telecommunication services.
