Breaking the genre of confining majority of major entertainment shows to Accra alone, a musical jamboree dubbed “Beacon of Peace” is scheduled to rock Tamale in the North Region on February 24, 2007. According to organisers of the event, Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) and Hafred Security Services Limited in Accra, the concert would be part of activities to climax a workshop for musicians on how music could be used to promote peace and security. To that effect, there would be hiplife and highlife performances amidst cultural, drama and dance performances. Top music icons like Emmanuel Samini (Batman), Wutah and King Ayisoba among other artistes, would perform. The rest of the performance would be staged by the seven- in-one musical group, the Amasachina Musical Group and the Tamale Secondary School (Tamasco) Art club. Besides a route march along the principal streets of Tamale, there would be the Damba festival dances and performances from the Simpa troupe. The event has become necessary due to the important role music and musicians play in peace building and conflict resolution, the organisers said. It is anticipated that the event would help unite the two gates, Abudus and Andanis as the programme would reject any form of partisan, clan and ethnic partiality. Besides, it would serve as the bedrock of legitimate and true reconciliation, mutual trust and development. The event which would be adopted as an annual musical festival of peace for the peoples of Northern Ghana, would serve as a platform to promote and unearth hidden talents in the youth. Participants expected to grace the show include representatives from the Northern regional musicians’ association, individual musicians in Ghana and peace activists.
