New Artiste of the Year at the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Mr Drew has described his performance on the night as his best so far.
The Highly Spiritual record label signee, put up an energetic performance that saw patrons cheer him on from the beginning of the performance to his last dance step.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, the ‘This Year’ hitmaker explained the idea behind that performance and also mentioned why he decided to toe that line.
"I didn’t want to do something normal and it’s a big stage. I have always wanted to perform on the VGMA main stage so I was like we need to do it in a different way; something legendary. It had to be a story; a whole movie. That was my best performance so far," he said.
Mr Drew however admits that he did not hit some of his vocal notes very well on the night.
Many criticized him for his poor vocal delivery on the night despite his energetic piece of choreography backed by a live band.
According to him, he struggled because he was double tasking as a singer and a dancer which affected his vocal prowess.
"I admit that I was flatting. It’s not easy. It’s like running and singing at the same time. If I was standing and doing a normal performance, it would have been fair for people to have something to say. What I was doing was different," he added.
Mr. Drew is currently promoting his debut album dubbed “Alpha”. The 12 track album features artistes like KiDi, Kwabena Kwabena and Victor AD.
The album is exclusively on the Boomplay streaming platform and would be available on other platforms after a week of the album release.
