International Women's Day is marked every 8th of March to celebrate women’s achievement in social, cultural, economic and political sphere.
The day recognizes women from all sphere of life and applaud them for their contribution to society and the world at large.
I believe the day is very significant because as women are celebrated on this day we delve into the challenges and issues women face in society.
This year, the theme for the celebration is ‘Break the bias’.
As I reflected on the theme I realized a lot had been done to address the biases women face in society but more can be done to help us in terms of education, improving maternal health, climate changes, mechanism for participation and representation of women at all levels of political process, eliminating violence against women.
The Covid-19 Pandemic has brought so much stress to humanity and I choose to celebrate all women who have laid their lives down in this difficult times to help fight it as we celebrate this important day.
I celebrate traders and market women who wake up at dawn to sit under the sun to make ends meet in order to support their families.
I celebrate Teachers who have laid their lives down to work in this challenging time, indeed you have chosen to challenge.
I celebrate frontline workers and female doctors all over the world who have laid their lives down to save lives in this Covid-19 time.
I celebrate all female journalist who are working assiduously to bring information concerning women in every corner to the public space.
Kudos to Individuals, institutions, Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) doing their possible best to help young mothers return to school.
Congratulations to all women.
Permit me to also pay tributes to all female nurses, doctors and frontline workers who have lost their lives in the quest of fighting the Covid-19, we celebrate your courage this day.
As celebrate this important day, let’s not forget to obey the COVID protocols, by washing our hands, social distancing, wearing the nose mask, sanitizing our hands.
Hands up high if you choose to break the bias!
