The Concerned Youth of the National Democratic Congress in Tamale is calling on President Mahama to intervene to settle the impasse between the Food and Drug Authority and Tobinco Pharmaceuticals to avert further lay off of more workers of the company.
The group in a press statement issued and signed by its secretary Mohammed Hudu, a company like Tobinco Pharmaceuticals to laying off over 600 workers as claimed by its financial controller Isaac Obed Brown is a setback on the president quest to reduce unemployment in the country and could have implications for the NDC government in the 2016 national elections.
It said even though the FDA may be acting in the best interest of public health without any personal vindictiveness, the group thinks the regulator must soften its stands in the best interest of business development and by extension reducing the over growing unemployment in the country.
The statement commended President Mahama for reassigning the Food and Drugs Authority former boss Dr. Stephen Opuni, and equally wants him as a matter of urgency to intervene to resolve the ongoing wrangling.
The Concern Youth of the NDC in Tamale also added that the NDC as a social democratic party, its quest to build a better Ghana Agenda must not allow itself to be tagged as a party that stifles the growth of private indigenous companies.
In conclusion, the statement commended the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health for stepping in to the ongoing wrangling and the committee resolves to undertake enquiry in to the matter.
