A member of the governing National Democratic Congress' (NDC) communication team says Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is gradually carving niche for himself as the most violent politician in Ghana’s history.
Felix Ofosu-Kwakye maintained that Mr. Akufo-Addo's refusal to concede defeat after losing gracefully to President John Mahama in the just-ended general elections vindicates the NDC members who have spoken of his violent persona.
He was reacting to the NPP’s resolve to seek legal redress over the alleged rigging of the elections in which the Electoral Commission (EC) pronounced the NDC’s President John Mahama as winner.
The opposition party claims that figures for Mahama were inflated at collation centres while those for their own presidential candidate were reduced to favour the incumbent government.
Aggrieved supporters of the NPP have massed up around Accra protesting the results and have vowed to stay in the streets until their presidential candidate is pronounced winner.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Felix Ofosu-Kwakye said the NPP supporters were putting into practice the infamous “All die be die” mantra espoused by their presidential candidate prior to the elections.
According to him, the aggrieved party members would not be on the streets if their leadership had not incited them.
“It is bad to wage a poor campaign and lose but it is worse to lie to your own supporters. I don’t blame NPP supporters; it is the leadership I blame because they did not tell them the truth,” presumably indicating that the NPP lost the election fair and square.
The NDC youth activist said that Akufo-Addo’s actions had proven beyond reasonable doubt that “he poses the biggest threat to the country's security".
He said the NPP would pay a hefty price for the violent conduct of its supporters over the years.
Ofosu-Kwakye maintained that the NPP claim of vote rigging “is an absolute falsehood and the biggest fraud being perpetrated on Ghanaians.”
“I think Nana Addo’s political career is over. I make a prediction that there is no way Ghanaians will vote him after this violent conduct. He has the worst record in Ghana's history as the only presidential candidate who has rejected election results on the basis of falsehood,” he added.
In spite of these alarming warnings, he assured Ghanaians that they will enjoy maximum security under the Mahama-led government.
