National Communications Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Christine Ansong, has applauded the government’s decision to increase the national daily minimum wage by nine per cent.

The new rate, which takes effect from January 1, 2026, will see the daily minimum wage rise from GH₵19.97 to GH₵21.77, following an agreement between government, labour, and employers.

Ms. Ansong said the move reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of Ghanaian workers and demonstrates that the NDC is a listening and responsive administration, especially in the face of current economic challenges.

She noted that although the new rate may still not fully offset the rising cost of living, it represents a meaningful step toward restoring the dignity and value of labour in Ghana.

“As Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL), I believe this step will particularly benefit young workers in the digital and technology sectors, encouraging more youth to embrace formal employment opportunities,” she said.

Ms. Ansong further urged employers across the public and private sectors to comply fully with the new wage directive, adding that government agencies must ensure effective monitoring and enforcement nationwide.

She concluded that the wage increase reinforces the NDC government’s commitment to social justice and inclusive growth, stressing that “this administration values Ghanaian workers and listens when citizens speak.”
