The Daily Dispatch newspaper has published what it calls an open letter from an NDC Member of Parliament warning the party against preventing the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings from contesting the flag-bearership of the party. The paper says that the only clue it can give about the MP's identity is that he is NOT a first time MP. Below is the full letter: “Dear Members of the NDC, I do not believe that ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, feel that they will be better off under a New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. What I believe is that the Rawlingses feel their ‘political baby’, the NDC, has attained ‘political adulthood’ and pieces of advice they give are not being adhered to ditto-ditto. "I belong to the school of thought within the NDC that the ongoing internal disagreements are about which faction believes it has more support. If my memory serves me right, this is the second time that there has been talk of the former First Lady Nana Konadu contesting for the flagbearership of the NDC. She has a right to. "Many of us believe that Nana Konadu should NOT back out of challenging President John Mills for the NDC’s 2012 presidential candidate slot. Once the Congress is over, we believe that we would see where the heads are and the tails are. "There are obviously advantages and disadvantages. I intend to discuss some of them, one advantage being that such an electoral head to head clash between the President and Nana Konadu will settle, once and for all, the direction majority of delegates want the Party to proceed. "Many of us in Parliament strongly suspect that the ‘kite’ being flown by supporters of the Rawlings is to send signal that the Rawlingses are there and cannot be wished away, just like that. I agree and it is a similar situation that members of the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah family find themselves in the Convention People’s Party (CPP). "Any inner member of the Nkrumah family who wants to contest a position within the CPP will either win or get an appreciable percentage of delegates’ votes. It will be in recognition of the role of Dr. Nkrumah in the formation and growth of the CPP. Dr. Nkrumah’s government was overthrown some 44 years ago, in 1966. "Page 53 of the new election book by the editor of The Daily Dispatch, Ben Ephson, had an analysis on the victory of Dr. Nkrumah’s daughter, Samia, in the 2008 parliamentary election in the Jomoro constituency in the Western Region. "The analysis stated in part, “the CPP candidate, Ms. Samia Yaba Christiana Nkrumah, won this seat (Jomoro), the party’s only seat. She drew a lot of votes from the two main political parties; 6,189 from the NPP and 2,297 votes from the NDC. Thus, a total of 8,486 persons who voted for Nana Akufo-Addo and Prof. Mills and not vote for their respective parliamentary candidates, voted for Samia.” "It is likely that majority of the delegates at the NDC Congress will not vote for Nana Konadu, not because she is not capable of being the NDC’s presidential candidate but because majority of floating voters (who are the kingmakers) will not want to create a political dynasty electing the wife of an ex President! "I will be very disappointed if Nana Konadu does not respond to the calls from her supporters to contest President Mills. She should contest and the issue of who-is-who in the NDC will be settled. The who-is-who aspect to be answered is not whether the Rawlingses are important or not, it is whether they should allow the Party to grow, with minimal interference. "The NDC delegates are relishing the Atta Mills – Nana Konadu electoral battle at the Congress." Source: The Daily Dispatch/Ghana
