The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has refuted allegations of a lack of interest in the legal challenges regarding the constitutionality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill.
His response follows accusations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the Supreme Court's decision to prioritize the trial of the application by South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, over the approval of ministerial and deputy ministerial nominees, while the case against the anti-LGBTQ Bill filed earlier by Richard Sky remains pending.
The NDC alleged that this move reflects a conspiracy by the court to aid the government in facilitating their nominees' approval in Parliament while delaying executive action on the Anti-LGBTQ bill.
However, addressing reporters in Accra concerning the Supreme Court's decision, the Attorney-General described the allegations of bias as baseless and unsubstantiated.
He stressed that his office had taken proactive measures by submitting an affidavit in response to the ongoing legal proceedings, demonstrating active engagement in the matter at hand.
“We have filed an affidavit in that matter. So I think all these comments are unwarranted and, indeed are baseless. We actually filed an affidavit to answer in the Richard Sky matter before this one.”
