A leading member of the the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Mike Ocquaye Jnr. has scoffed at the popular campaign slogan of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) ede bee keke, describing it as the only policy of the ruling party.
According to him, the slogan not only portrays the NDC as a 'visionless' political party, but one which came to power to ‘milk’ the country of its resources as well.
Mike Ocquaye Jnr’s was reacting to the NDC’s persistent opposition to the free Senior High School (SHS) policy being championed by the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Under the policy, an Akufo-Addo government will absorbed all fees at the secondary level and redefine basic education from kindergarten to include SHS.
But the ruling NDC maintains that free secondary school education cannot be possible unless the NPP solves the problems of inadequate infrastructure, lack of teachers and logistics for effective teaching and learning among others.
Speaking on Asempa FM'sEkosii Sen programme Wednesday, Mike Ocquaye Jnr. challenged the NDC to provide its alternative policy as a counter to the NPP’s free SHS.
He said the ruling party’s vile propaganda against the NPP's free SHS policy is borne out of ignorance and government’s lack of vision to improve the country’s educational sector.
The NPP man also expressed dismay at the stance taken by the ruling NDC on free SHS particularly when it has been revealed that leading members of the NDC, including President Mahama once benefited from free education some years ago.
He stated that the NPP and its presidential candidate are unperturbed by NDC’s cynicism and machination to discredit the policy adding that there's no doubt the party would implement the policy when it wins December 7 polls.
Mike Ocquaye Jnr. intimated that the NDC slogan of ede bee keke also amounts to attempts to mock the suffering of Ghanaians hence it [NDC] should be voted out of power.
According to him, NDC slogan portrays the ruling party as one without any objective and that they are in government only to enrich themselves and their cronies.
Mike Ocquaye Jnr. urged Ghanaians to vote massively for the NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo come December 7.
