The newly elected Member of Parliament for Offinso South, Dr. Owusu Achiaw Dua was sworn into office when Parliament reconvened on Tuesday.
Dr. Dua won the poll on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, beating three other contestants. The Offinso South seat became vacant after the death of the MP of the area, Kwabena Sarfo in August.
The Speaker of the House, Ebenezer Begyina Sakyi-Hughes administered the various oaths and admitted Dr. Dua into the House.
The Leadership of the House later addressed the new MP and welcomed him. First, Deputy Minority Leader, Edward Doe Adjaho reminded the new member that he won the election to represent all the people of the constituency and so should endeavour to be open to all.
The Majority Leader also welcomed Dr. Dua and said the House would work with him to ensure that he contributed effectively to debates and activities of the House. He also asked him to help ensure the security of the state.
Earlier, Speaker Sakyi Hughes welcomed the MPs back into the House after a three month break. He reminded the MPs of the volume of work expected to be completed before rising at the end of the year and urged them to be punctual and dedicated to their work.
