NDC prodigal son Michael Teye Nyaunu has staged a comeback in the governing party with an ambitious plan to recapture the Lower Manya Krobo parliamentary seat.
MTN, as he is popularly called, also believes he can spearhead the process to repair the frosty relationship between the governing National Democratic Congress and former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
He was an angry man when he forfeited his membership of the National Democratic Congress to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate in the 2012 elections.
The former Lower Manya Krobo MP, Michael Teye Nyaunu came under intense scrutiny from top officials of the NDC for among other actions, endorsing the candidature of Mr Konadu Rawlings when she broke away from the party.
But today, the former legislator has a change of heart and wants to become the party’s parliamentary candidate in his area.
“The time I was even contesting as an independent candidate, I was hoping that I could have contested rather on the ticket of the NDC because I am among the founding members (of the NDC)....So you could see how difficult it was for me at that time. But I had to take that route at that time because of what the party did to me...Because of the pronouncements I made in respect of late Atta Mills’ health, the party sponsored somebody else to contest me at the primaries,” the controversial politician told JOYNEWS’ Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah
“What about somebody who helped to form the party and became a party chairman and left the party and formed a political party against his own party and he came back and was accepted; Dr Obed Asamoah. These things are bound to happen in a political organization,” Mr Teye Nyaunu intimated, defending his loyalty to the NDC
The former Lower Manya Krobo MP has also promised to do all he can to ensure that wife of party founder, Nana Konadu Rawlings returns to the NDC
“I will prefer to join a team that will approach Nana Konadu. At the end of the day when you habour so much pain in you, it affects your health personally. So if we have to approach her as a former mother of the country, I will be honoured to be a member of that team,” he said.
Michael Teye Nyaunu, however tells JOYNEWS he is yet to be cleared by the party’s National Executive Committee to pick forms. According to him, the committee is taking a decision on wheather or not he can still be considered a party member.
