The Nkyinkyim Band is on a mission to revolutionise the music industry in Ghana by advocating for a national union and developing software to standardize band bookings.
According to the band, the lack of trust and transparency in the industry has led to inconsistent pricing and unfair treatment of both bands and clients.
To address this issue, they propose creating an app or software that would bring all bands onboard, providing a platform for transparent booking and payment processes.
"We want to create a system where you know that this band is trustworthy if you're paying through this app," explains the band.
"We'll have a rating system, with Class A, B, and C bands, each with its own pricing range. This way, clients will know exactly what to expect."
The band cites the current challenges in the industry, where prices vary wildly and bands often undercut each other.
"You might see one band charging 20,000 cedis, while another charges 3,000 cedis with more equipment. It's chaotic."
Despite these challenges, the Nkyinkyim Band remains optimistic about the potential of music to change lives.
"Music pays if you really work hard," they emphasised.
"This is the only profession that can take you to the highest level in the world."
With their proposed software and national union, the Nkyinkyim Band aims to bring order and professionalism to the Ghanaian music industry, paving the way for a brighter future for musicians and clients alike.
