The emergency congress of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) underway in Sunyani, has created a field day for traders and other business concerns.
The Ghana News Agency market survey revealed that economic activities in the Brong-Ahafo Regional capital picked up, since Thursday, December 16, when supporters and leadership of the NPP arrived in Sunyani for the day’s congress.
Vendors in all kinds of food items, including fruits and vegetables as well as sachet water sellers have occupied almost every corner outside the Sunyani Coronation Park, the venue for the congress to sell their stuff.
The congress has also created economic activities for some young men and women trading in various kinds of NPP paraphernalia.
According to them the demand for the party paraphernalia is very high.
Some of the traders who were very excited told the GNA that they had witnessed sharp increase in daily sales.
A local porridge popularly known as “Hausa koko” is also selling very fast. At about 0600 hours when the GNA visited the venue of the congress, party supporters and sympathisers were arriving.
Madam Salamatu Abiba, one of the porridge sellers confirmed that business was booming.
