Aggrieved NPP polling station executives in the Tano North constituency of the Ahafo Region have accused the national executives of pampering the Member of Parliament, Freda Prempeh.
They claim many of her excesses, many of which are against the party’s regulations, in her attempt to win the upcoming parliamentary primaries, go unchecked by the party. A situation they said is affecting the electoral fortunes of the party in the constituency.
Tano North constituency failed to conduct elections to elect executives due to an injunction from the Sunyani High Court secured by five aggrieved members of the party over unresolved concerns.
At a press conference at Yamfo, James Adawu Okyere, a member of the aggrieved executives, mentioned no elections at some polling stations in the constituency, no elections for some electoral area coordinator aspirants, removal of names of some polling station executives from the album, and the absence of an official album for the election, as some of the concerns that require resolution.

They accused the committee tasked to supervise the re-run polling station election of worsening matters as ground rules were not upheld.
Mr. Okyere explained that Duayaw Nkwanta, Yamfo, Tanoso, and Bomaa zones had a total of 13 polling stations left out of the re-run election.
Though there were no elections in these zones, the group alleged that the “provisional album” they intercepted had names of people who lost in the canceled election for the affected zones, while some of them have been drafted from other polling stations to serve as executives at stations they do not have a vote.
“It is instructive to also make the case that, there has been unlawful removal of not less than forty-five polling station officers from the album”, he said, adding that though the affected officers have petitioned the national office of the party, there is no response yet.
He also accused the MP of effecting changes in the constituency council of elders and patrons contrary to the party’s constitution.
According to the group, these are the doings of the MP to have her people as delegates ahead of the constituency parliamentary primaries.

Mr. Okyere stated, “It is very disturbing to see a party that touts itself with having led major electoral reforms in national elections since 1992 is unable to internalize same”.
“We, therefore, call on the National Executives to check the excesses of the MP and should stop pampering her as her popularity keeps dwindling in the constituency every passing second”.
The group also expressed their dissatisfaction with the work of the national representative on the election committee in the constituency, Daniel Patrick Nii Laryea Squire, accusing him of biased conduct.
“He connived with others to institute an accreditation regime that tilts favorably towards the incumbent MP with a plan to populate the venue for the constituency delegate’s conference with individuals whose names are not in the album and to get them to vote for aspirants who align more with the MP”.
Mr. Okyere noted that this, among others, indicates that the referee brought in by the national executives has not demonstrated impartiality as he is seen to be in bed with the MP.
They, therefore, “demand his immediate recall from the committee and his subsequent replacement with a more transparent, impartial, and experienced officer”.
“We are committed to breaking the 8 but not until the issues raised are addressed by the Party, breaking the 8 will forever remain a mirage”, he concluded.
