The winner of the Super Delegates' Congress, Nana Akuffo-Addo says his win signifies the New Patriotic Party is not divided but more united than ever.
Nana Akuffo-Addo had more than 80 percent of the total votes cast after he competed with six other aspirants.
Minutes after the provisional results of the election were declared, Nana Akuffo-Addo told Joy News’ Francis Abban at his Ridge office he did expect the win.
“I was hoping that if indeed what I had seen on my rounds which was a strong affirmation of the party’s grassroots that they had a lot of confidence in me and my leadership, if it was genuine it will translate into a big enough vote to show that the party is strongly united at its base”.
When asked what this result signifies even in the face of the media war ahead of the super delegates’ congress, he said “I think it tells you that the talk is by a small minority of people. They do not represent the rank and file of our party.
"The rank and file of the party and the larger constituencies have been and continue to remain very united and resolved. Yes there are differences of approach among leaders but to translate that to mean the party is imploding is very farfetched”.
Meanwhile, Nana Akufo-Addo indicated that his main concern now is to focus on delivering on the objective of the party but “part of it depends on my competitors and for the party leaders what attitude they will take to this result. But my main concern is how we all pull together and put our wheel to the course of the elephant”.
