A thanksgiving service was held at St. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kpando following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) successful presidential primaries, with party leaders urging unity and renewed grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The gathering brought together party executives, members, and supporters from the Kpando Constituency to thank God for a peaceful internal electoral process and to rally behind the party’s newly elected flagbearer, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Call for Unity After Primaries

Speaking at the event, Kpando Constituency Chairman MMrEric Fia said the thanksgiving was not only a spiritual exercise but also a strategic step to heal divisions and consolidate party strength after a competitive primary contest.

“Having successfully elected our flag bearer, His Excellency DrDrawumia, it was necessary to bring everybody back together,” Mr Mra said. “We had many contestants, and in such contests the, re are bound to be differences. But going forward, if we are not united, there is no way we can achieve our aim in 2028.”

He stressed that the unity call extends beyond supporters of Dr Bawumia to all factions and former aspirants within the party.

“This is not only for the Bawumia team. It is for the entire NPP membership. We cannot do it alone. We need supporters of all the other contestants to come on board because we are one party,” he noted.

MMrFia added that the party’s pathway to power depends on cohesion and shared commitment from the national level down to constituencies and polling station structures.
“If we are united from the national to the constituency to the polling station level, whatever we plan will come to pass,” he said.

Message to the Youth: Respect Party Rules

Party member Engr. Carl Mawuli Atitse addressed the youth, urging them to embrace party discipline, respect for rules, and majority decisions as the true meaning of unity.

“Unity means respect for the rules of the party, respect for the party’s constitution, and respect for majority decisions,” Engr. Atitse stated. “Very often, after decisions are made, some people still hold onto the minority side, and that brings division and conflict.”

He reminded young members that they are not only future leaders but also present stakeholders with immediate responsibility.

“They say the youth are the future leaders, but today is the future. You are the leaders of today. If we unite behind our flag bearer and unite as Ghanaian youth, we can make meaningful gains through politics,” he said.

Response to Vote-Buying Allegations

Responding to concerns about alleged vote buying during the primaries, Engr. Atitse denied the claims, explaining that what critics described as inducement was logistical support for delegates travelling from distant polling areas to voting centres.

“We are not buying votes,” he said. “Each constituency votes at one centre, yet they come from many polling stations. Giving a small amount to support transportation to the voting centre cannot be described as vote buying.”

He added that vote buying would involve directly influencing a voter’s choice with money or gifts, which was not the case.

Focus on 2028 Electoral Victory

Speakers emphasised the 2028 general elections as the party’s next major goal, expressing confidence that a united front and clear policy messaging would attract national support.

“What Ghanaians are looking for is unity. When we are united, they will be ready to listen to our policies and our message and bring us back to power,” MrMria said.

The event concluded with prayers and renewed pledges from party faithful to strengthen grassroots structures, close ranks, and work collectively toward victory in 2028.
