The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Jaman South constituency, Alhaji Abu has said the party will ensure that the perpetrators of the alleged whipping of a party communicator at the Drobo palace are brought to book.
In an interview with Adom News, he stated that the punishment was unwarranted and inhumane on the part of the perpetrators.
According to him, before the elections, the Party sensitised its members on upholding peace in all their activities. He, therefore, found it is very unfortunate that a member of the NPP was subjected to such ill-treatment.
He asked party supporters to remain calm as the Party works with the police to investigate the incident.
“We are not comfortable with what took place and as a political party I must admit, we will not sit down, because we can’t allow our members to suffer like that,” he said.
“As a political party, our main motive was to ensure peace before, during and after the elections. So whatever reason, I wonder why anybody should do that (lash someone).
“Even if the person has committed an offence and there is even an evidence to that, they should allow the court to take its course,” he said.
His reaction comes on the back of reports that indicated that one Isreal Kofi Baffour Asare had been lashed for insulting the Queen-mother of the Drobo Traditional Area in the Bono Region.
Mr Baffour Asare is said to have described the Nana Yaa Ansuaa with some unpleasant words and was, therefore, subjected to 40 lashes and admonished to be of good behaviour.

However, the leaders of Drobo Traditional Area have debunked the allegation.
According to them, they had no hand in the activity and have since distanced themselves from the act.
