Ghanaian rapper Medikal has recounted his experience in jail following the loss of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 election. 

In September 2021, the police arrested Medikal for brandishing a gun in a video posted on social media. He was later charged for unlawful display of arms and ammunition.

Medikal had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge when he made his first appearances in court, but the court refused him bail.

The 'Omo Ada' rapper was remanded into police custody for five days. When he reappeared before the court on October 26, the adjudicator granted him a ¢100,000 bail.

In a recent post on X, he highlights the incident that happened to him, linking it to present government. 

“NPP arrested me for no tangible reason, NPP put me in cells, locked me up in jail(Ankaful Maximum security prison) all in the name of power. My lawyers tried to communicate with superiors and all they got in response was ‘it’s an order from above’,” he writes.

He therefore admonishes John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress seek the welfare of the youth when he is sworn into office

“Let it be known to the incoming president,His Excellency John Dramani Mahama that,I do not trust him but rather believe in him. Let this new change be exhibited drastically ! If not for anything, he should foresee the generation of Sharaf, ‘a good friend of mine  (His Son) and the betterment of the youth in Ghana and beyond. Thank you,” he further states.

Although the results of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary election are yet to be officially announced by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the flagbearer of the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has conceded defeat to Former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a public address broadcast from Dr. Bawumia's residence hours after results started trickling in, he acknowledged the victory of John Mahama and expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for the opportunity to serve as a vice president and presidential candidate.

Dr Bawumia acknowledged the provisional results from the party’s internal collation, which indicated a victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama.
