Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue Gwira, Catherine afeku, is accusing the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being a dictating tool for the Electoral Commission. Speaking on Multi TV’s BADWAM on Adom Channel, she was worried that the Mills-led administration was leading a campaign on pushing for the use of the biometric registration without a verification process. She claimed this was against the wishes of majority of Ghanaians. "The NDC has a hidden agenda and we are not going to allow it. Because they want to rig the 2012 elections they are spearheading the adoption of the Biometric registration. The Mills-led administration is deciding how the elections should go and we are not taking it.” She insisted. “...[The] General Secretary of the NDC was on radio up in arms, stating that the NDC will not accept the biometric registration with a verification process. “What I want to say is that, they are not EC, it is not for them to decide for the people of Ghana". Catherine maintained. She was also worried that the NDC’s refusal to provide the 50 million requested by the EC in order to put in place the verification process will rob Ghanaians of a free and fair election. “The NDC is fretting,” she alleged. “They know they will lose the elections come 2012, and so are seizing every opportunity to rig. Any time Nana Addo speaks, the NDC shakes, they catch cold. This is because they know they are not performing and Ghanaians will boot them out," she added. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP pleaded with the NDC to allow the EC do their job. However, NDC women’s organiser, Anita De Souza, who was also on the show, denied the allegations, saying the NPP was making up stories to confuse Ghanaians. She maintained that the NDC government was the only government that had given the EC the biggest support. According to her, the NPP’s position on the biometric registration was unfounded and baseless, noting that the biometric registration was a sure way to ensuring a free and fair election in 2012.
