A founding Member of the opposition New Patriotic party (NPP), Mr. George Ayisi Boateng has charged the youth leadership of the party to help retrieve all party assets which have gone into individual hands, since its establishment in 1992. According to Mr. Ayisi Boateng, the party must no longer sit down unconcerned, while all its assets, especially vehicles used for campaign during elections fall into individual hands without accountability. The NPP founder, who was addressing regional organisers of the party and their deputies in Kumasi recently, noted that as future leaders of the party, it is the duty of the youth leadership to stand up for what rightly belongs to the party and protect them from a few selfish individuals. Mr. Ayisi Boateng recounted that since 1992, when the NPP started to contest elections in the country, a number of pick-up trucks acquired by the party for nationwide campaign, have been stolen or taken away by party executives who leave office, and this according to him, has drained the party of valuable and un-replenished logistics, which could otherwise be used for upcoming campaigns. He questioned why the party should always have to use the little resources at its disposal to buy new cars and other logistics in the period leading to general elections, when it could depend on those ones previously used. He advised that there should be proper inventories on such items. "Why do we always have to purchase new cars for new campaigns, what happens to all the pick-up vehicles used in the earlier elections, where they go to?, somebody must account for them," he charged. Mr. Ayisi Boateng indicated that a lot of former regional and national party executives are keeping party vehicles for their personal use, stressing that "the youth must raise questions about the whereabouts of these vehicles and try as much as possible to retrieve them." He noted that the party is in opposition and cannot afford to live in luxury, adding -"this is the more reason why we must search and retrieve all party properties in individual hands." The party's founding member also touched on unity among the leaders of youth groups in the party stressing that they must work in harmony to uphold the principles of the party. He noted that the youth must not allow themselves to be used by any groups or individuals to champion their selfish interests. The assembly of the regional Youth Organizers and their deputies is in fulfillment of the constitution of the party. Through the conference, the organizers of the party, led by the National Youth Organizer, would formulate policies and programmes of action to be implemented by the youth wing, and presented to the newly elected presidential candidate of the party. Other leading personalities of the party who addressed the youth leadership at the two day conference included the MP for Atwima Mponua and one of the pioneers for the youth conference. Hon. Isaac Asiamah the MP for Assin North, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and the Regional Secretary of the party. Mr. Samuel Pyne. In his welcome address the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the party Gideon Buako reminded participants of the challenges ahead of the party in 2012 and urged them to gather the needed arsenal to confront their political opponents. He said as the stronghold of the NPP Ashanti region will work hard to sustain and protect the electoral fortune of the NPP come December 2012. The National Organizer of the party, Anthony Abaryifaa Kamo touched on the need for the youth to remain united and protect their ranks from being divided by individual and selfish preferences.
