The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will ensure that party members cited in the latest Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) media monitoring report for unsavoury comments are sanctioned. According to the party's Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, although he is yet to set eyes on the contents of the MFWA report, the party is committed to adhering to the Foundation's call that politicians who make indecent expressions in the media be punished publicly. The Foundation's media monitoring report, which was issued recently, shows the opposition NPP is the worst culprit in the use of indecent language on radio. But speaking to Joy News on Wednesday, the NPP Chairman said "I've always abhorred indecent language even in common speech; certainly I abhor indecent language in public, and you cannot get more public than on the airwaves". He acknowledged, however, that sanctioning party members publicly could be a very "complicated issue", but urged stakeholders - the media and other political parties - to be proactive to nip indecent language on the airwaves in the bud. "Once you don't stop it at the first instance, it's very difficult to stop the reaction", he noted.
