Koforidua Senior High and Technical School (KSTS) have surrendered their seeded spot in the National Science and Maths Quiz to city rivals Pope John Seminary and SHS.

For Pope John, it’s a well thought through and perfectly executed revenge after KSTS knocked them out at the same stage in 2018.

Notre Dame Girls’ SHS from the Bono Region have also been eliminated from the contest after placing second.

Pope John SHS have, however, begun a steady climb back to glory after suffering a lot of stink in recent years.

When the contest, began, however, it looked like KSTS would complete a double on the all-boys’ school.

All the schools took the first round slowly with KSTS taking a leap ahead of the two other competitors.

The Round 1/5 scores stood at: KSTS 17pts, Notre Dame Girls' SHS: 13pts, Pope John SHS: 12pts.

Like the cliché, the last shall become the first; Pojoss leapfrogged their neighbours and wrestled the first place from them. They were, however, matched by the girls from Fiapre in the Sunyani West District.

The two schools dominated Round 2, known as the speed race where the questions are directed to all schools simultaneously.

From that point, it was total disaster for KSTS who had come into the contest as a seeded school for their good performance in 2018.

All three schools scored zero in the Problem of the Day, which has become a regular occurrence since the start of the 2019 edition of the NSMQ.

After KSTS got so many True or False questions wrong, which attracts penalty points, the match became one between Notre Dame and Pojoss with the boys holding the upper hand in points.

There were chants in the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium of the University of Ghana Business School when the final round began, where four riddles are read for the fastest contestants to attempt an answer.

Pojoss rose to occasion and delivered a stunning mastery of the riddles; they answered three of the four riddles to end the contest with the scores standing at:

Pope John SHS: 36pts

Notre Dame Girls' SHS: 23pts

K.S.T.S: 18pts
