The National Teaching Council (NTC) has outlined the eligibility requirements, fee structure and key dates for candidates intending to sit the 2026 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1.
The Council has urged prospective candidates to carefully review the guidelines and complete the necessary processes within the stipulated registration period.
Eligibility Requirements
According to the NTC, only candidates who hold a Bachelor of Education degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education will be eligible to sit the 2026 GTLE 1.
Applicants who obtained their qualifications outside Ghana are required to present a certificate evaluation report issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
This evaluation is intended to verify the equivalence and authenticity of foreign academic credentials before candidates can proceed with registration.
Prospective candidates are also required to check their status online via the official NTC indexing portal prior to commencing the registration process.

Indexing Process and Payment Procedures
The indexing fee has been set at fifty Ghana Cedis (GH¢50.00). However, candidates who are re-sitting the examination are exempt from the indexing process.
Payments may be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Ltd nationwide. Alternatively, candidates may opt for mobile money payment by dialling the short code 77251# across all networks and entering their college or university index number.
Upon dialling the code, candidates will be prompted to access the National Teaching Council mobile payment services menu, where they are required to select “Teacher Licensure” and follow the instructions provided.
After successful payment, candidates will receive a confirmation message containing their name and indexing number.
Examination Fees
The Council has also published the examination fee structure for 2026:
- Fresh candidates will pay GH¢450.00 to sit three papers.
- Candidates re-sitting one paper will pay GH¢150.00.
- Those re-sitting two papers will pay GH¢210.00.
- Candidates re-sitting all three papers will pay GH¢385.00.
The differentiated fee structure is designed to accommodate both first-time candidates and those seeking to improve previous results.
Key Dates
Registration for the 2026 GTLE 1 will commence on 16th February 2026 and close on 10th March 2026. The examination itself is scheduled to take place from 23rd to 25th March 2026.
The NTC has advised candidates to adhere strictly to the registration deadline, noting that late submissions may not be entertained.
