The President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Daniel Korley Botchway, says the Union remains committed to “deepening international partnerships that directly benefit Ghanaian students,” following a high-level meeting with officials of the Chinese Embassy in Accra on Wednesday, March 13, 2025.
The engagement, according to NUGS, forms part of efforts to broaden access to scholarship programmes, boost academic exchanges, and strengthen institutional collaboration between universities in Ghana and China.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Botchway said the Union is focused on securing opportunities that reflect the changing demands of the global job market.
“Our priority is to create more pathways for Ghanaian students — from scholarships to digital learning and technical training — so they can compete confidently anywhere in the world,” he said.
The discussions also explored cooperation in digital education, technical and vocational skills development, and youth capacity-building initiatives. NUGS highlighted China’s longstanding contribution to Ghana’s education sector, citing support in infrastructure development, technology, and tertiary partnerships.
Officials from the Chinese Embassy expressed their readiness to enhance collaboration, particularly in areas that align with Ghana’s education reforms and youth development agenda.
NUGS emphasised that its engagement with foreign partners is part of its constitutional mandate as a statutory institution within Ghana’s educational governance structure. The Union noted that such international cooperation is crucial for expanding opportunities and improving the overall learning environment for students nationwide.
The meeting is considered another strategic step in strengthening Ghana–China relations in the education sector and advancing programmes that support the academic and professional growth of Ghanaian youth.
