The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Emmanuel Sin-nyet Asigri, says some 10,000 persons are set to benefit from vocational and technical training across the country.
This voluntary youth camp is part of the government's effort to bridge the gap in the educational sector, Mr. Asigri disclosed at Dambai Friday, August 9, at the maiden celebration of International Youth Day in the Oti Region.
These persons who are mostly school dropouts will be taken through this training and be given the necessary tools to set up their own businesses after the training.

This year’s celebration was anchored on the theme Transforming Education: “The role of the youth in contributing to quality education in Ghana.”
Mr. Asigri encouraged the youth in the region to take advantage of government interventions targeting the youth, to develop themselves and not to wait for what he calls “mysterious body” called government to resolve their problems.
The youth camps Mr. Asigri added, will be targeted at vocational and technical skills acquisition to make the youth relevant in the job market.

Funding Free SHS
Mr. Asigri added his voice to the funding debate on the free senior high school education, calling on government to expand the tax net to include the artisanal industry.
According to him, persons engaged in the sector, such as masons, carpenter, etc. receive huge earnings from their contracts but pay little or no tax to the government.

Regional offices
The CEO revealed no budgetary allocations were made for the 2019 fiscal year towards the physical construction of offices in the newly created regions. He is hopeful that will be included in 2020 budget.
He however said, personnel in regions from which the new regions were created, will continue with supervisory works in the new regions until the establishment of offices in the new regions.
