The outspoken Member of Parliament for the Lower Manya constituency, Hon. Michael Teye Nyaunu, has taken a swipe at the General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, saying it is unfortunate for him to describe ex-President JJ Rawlings, who once fed him as a “barking dog”.
According to him, Mr. Nketiah, whose moniker in the political landscape is popularly known as ‘General Mosquito’ used to receive rice, sugar and other allocations monthly from former president Rawlings when the NDC was in opposition.
He added it is surprising that the general secretary could join others to ridicule the former first family who have been very kind to him all these years.
“He [Nketia] goes to their house and they give him items. .. they give him rice, they give him things, so I am very surprised that General Mosquito would turn over just like that,” Hon. Nyaunu said on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday. “That is why I have been saying that something went wrong somewhere in our party.”
The NDC general secretary is alleged to have said during a welcoming event for some members of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) that, “Now the barking dog [alluding to Rawlings] whose actions forced you out of the NDC no longer exists, so I would have been surprised if you had continued to stay outside…”
However, General Mosquito has since explained that the ‘barking dog’ reference he made was in regards to the issues of violence and lack of internal democracy which the DFP cited for leaving the party.
However, Hon. Nyaunu, an avowed devotee of the Rawlingses said on the show that Mr. Nketiah could only have been referring to the former president if indeed he referred to any barking dog.
“As far as I know there is no dog, he is referring to a human being and by every indication he is referring to the former president,” the MP insisted.
“I am very surprised because Asiedu Nketia was very close to President Rawlings. When we were in opposition Asiedu Nketia goes to former President Rawlings every month ending to collect his allocation and he will never deny,” Hon. Nyaunu claimed.
