A student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School has called for justice after he was violently attacked during a district inter-schools athletics competition at Agona Swedru in the Central Region.
The victim, identified as Fiadzigbe, sustained a broken tooth and multiple facial injuries after he was allegedly pelted with stones and assaulted during the event.
A video of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows the student under attack while others flee the scene.
Recounting the incident, Fiadzigbe insisted he did nothing to provoke the assault.
“They threw a stone at me when I was looking for a place to sit so that I could use the medicine on my eye. I didn’t do anything. I was just standing there,” he said.
According to him, the situation escalated without warning.
“When I turned, I saw my colleagues running, but I didn’t know what was happening. By the time I realised, the stones came to hit me,” he explained.
The assault was allegedly carried out by students of the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) during the athletics competition.
The Ghana Police Service has since arrested three students in connection with the attack, as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education have condemned the violence, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship. They have called for those responsible to be dealt with in accordance with the law.
In response to the incident, all ongoing sporting activities in the Central Region have been suspended pending further review and the implementation of enhanced security measures.
For Fiadzigbe, justice remains the priority.
“I want them to be arrested. Anything that the government wants to do to them,” he said.
