Hundreds of residents of Pakyi-Bankro in Amansie West district of Ashanti Region have undergone free medical screening and health education.
Health NGO, F. A. Ofosu-Barko Foundation, spearheaded the initiative to bring healthcare to the doorstep of people in the rural community.
As early as 8 a.m. tens had queued up for the day’s exercise.
Medical officers examined people for and educated them diabetes, blood pressure as well as breast and cervical cancer, among others.
Many of them were diagnosed with conditions doctors attribute to late reporting of aliment to hospital and irregular check- up.
Children, mostly with respiratory tract infections were also attended to.

In partnership with Palb Pharmacy, beneficiaries received medication for free, and those with severe conditions referred for further treatment.
They want more of such programmes to help them improve their health.
The foundation which focuses on rural health honours the legacy of late Dr. F.A Ofosu-Barko, renowned obstetric and gynaecologist.
Son and President of the foundation Dr. Ben Blay Ofosu-Barko says the foundation has a special focus on promoting women wellness.
The next stop is Oyoko in the Sekyere-East District.
