Traders at the Racecourse Market in the Ashanti Region have threatened to vote against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming election if the party fails to push massive socio-economic development to the region.
Their frustrations come in the wake of the appointment of Ashanti region’s Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate to the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to the traders, their consistent support for the party has not yielded positive results in lobbying projects for the region, especially their stalled market projects.

They are disappointed that the party and the government have neglected them.
Addressing the press, market leader, Christabel Amoah was distraught over the abandoned market projects in the region and the deplorable roads leading to the Racecourse market.
“We voted the NPP into power 8 years ago. But we haven’t been attended to in terms of development.
"Traders across the city are left stranded. Markets in the city have been abandoned. We will advise ourselves if they fail to complete these markets before the elections,” she said.

The Krofrom market, one of the major trading centres in the Manhyia North constituency where Dr. Opoku Prempeh served as the legislator for a decade and half has been abandoned for years.
“NAPO has been MP for 16 years and the abandoned Krofrom market is an issue he could have addressed but he didn’t and we don’t expect him to address our problem now that he has been appointed as running mate,” she said.
Following their evacuation to make way for the construction of the second phase of the Kejetia redevelopment project, the traders have been left at the peril of a makeshift trading center at the Race course.
Roads leading to the market center are in a deplorable state affecting economic activities.
