Host city Kumasi is set to witness the biggest derby on home soil in the ongoing National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) in the semi-final stage.

This was confirmed after favourites Opoku Ware School dashed underdogs Ghana Senior High’s hopes of causing an upset in the last quarterfinal contest on Sunday evening.

The contest was a tough one but after Round Three which has the ‘Problem of the Day,’ the boys were separated from the men and OWASS asserted their dominance over the contest, sprinting ahead of their contenders.

The victory sent the students and old boys of OWASS roaring beyond control in the auditorium at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi where the contest is being held.

The best of this victory is that it has set them up against bitter city rivals Prempeh College, who are four-time champions and the hosts KNUST SHS also based in Kumasi.

The Kumasi derby which will decide which host school will represent the city in the grand finale is billed to be the fiercest contest of the 2021 competition.

Prempeh won an easy and expected victory Sunday afternoon while KNUST SHS’s contest against Accra Academy went down to the wires with the hosts carrying the day.

OWASS finished the evening’s contest with a decisive 56 points against GHANASS’s 36 and Oda SHS trailed with 28 points.
