The Special Committee constituted by Parliament to investigate alleged criminal activities by Fulanis across the country is set to commence field work from 20th January.
The Committee is tasked to, among other things, investigate allegations of brutalities by herdsmen at Dwerebease, Agogo, and other parts of Afram Plains.
The committee has been tasked among other things to investigate the ethnic background of the herdsmen and how they came into the country.
The committee is also to recommend to government measures to be taken to resolve this issue. Formation of the Committee was announced in Parliament by the Majority Leader Cletus Avorka on 11th December, 2011.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee Hon. Joseph Boahen Aidoo told Adom News’ Yaa Asantewaa that, the committee had been meeting and planning its activities but is waiting for the deployment of resources to move to the field and deal with the issue.
According to him, since the 13-member Committee will be travelling to places they will need money to cater for their accommodation, fuel, food and other things necessary to compliment their work.
Mr. Boahen Aidoo however expressed the hope that, by 20th January, 2012 the Committee would have gotten the resources to commence their work. He reiterated that, for the Committee to do a more thorough investigation and arrive at a balanced and accurate conclusion, the ten weeks time frame allotted them is inadequate adding, members will however endeavour to ensure that, a report could be ready at the expiration of the ten weeks mandate.
The Amenfi East MP also called on communities affected by the activities of Fulanis to contact members of the committee and assist them with any information on the activities of the Fulani herdsmen.
According to Mr. Boahen Aidoo, advertisements will be run on TV, Radio and in the Newspapers where contact numbers will be published.
He stressed that the Committee’s work will only be consummated by information furnished it by members of the public especially those affected by the activities of Fulani herdsmen.
