The Peki Government Hospital in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region urgently needs an emergency unit and an upgrade of its theatre to enable the facility to deal swiftly with critical cases.
The hospital, which is one of two major health facilities along the Eastern Corridor Road, frequently records severe accident cases due to its location on the major road.
The hospital serves patients from three districts namely, Hohoe Municipality, South Dayi and Asougyaman districts.
Recently, two institutions namely Team Diamond of the Max international, Peki Union UK and a couple, Mr and Mrs Balasu came to the aid of the hospital and donated customised mattresses worth GHȻ40,000.

Medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Alphonse Dzakpasu, said after a donation that the absence of a well-equipped emergency unit is hampering effective delivery of emergency care to victims.
According to Dr Dzakpasu, the hospital urgently needs the emergency unit to be upgraded and expanded to accommodate and cater for the many accidents and emergency cases brought to the hospital.
“From Accra on the Eastern Corridor Road, this hospital is the first point of call in case of an accident but the emergency centre is nothing to write home about,” he lamented.
Dr Dzakpasu also appealed to government and the Ministry of Health to upgrade the existing operating theatre which he described as too small to cater for the huge number of cases being brought to the hospital.
He wants modern facilities to be installed to enable quality health delivery.
The hospital according to Dr Alphonse Dzakpasu provides general medical services including, OPD admissions, discharging, surgical, maternity, and other humanitarian services such as free health counselling, rural outreach and sensitization programs.
Dr Dzakpasu, who is also a member of Team Diamond of Max International, revealed he called on the team for the support and they responded swiftly.
The Medical superintendent also urged other benevolent organisations and individuals to come on board and assist the hospital.
