A research fellow at the Noguchi Memorial Institute, Dr. Joseph Kofi Bonney has disclosed that there have been various instances where people whose Covid-19 results turned out positive have challenged the outcome of the test.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Monday, July 26, 2021, Dr Kofi Bonney explained that this often happens with people who walked in for the tests looking hale and healthy.
"There are cases where people walk in and as they walk in they are not sick but the moment they come and they test, the test turns out to be positive.
"We have had instances where people have challenged us that the results we are giving to them are not for them because they don't think they are positive," he said.
His comment comes on the heels of President Akufo-Addo's address in which he said that available statistics at the Ghana Health Service indicate that Ghana is experiencing its third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
During his 26th address on measures taken to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the nation, the President re-imposed some restrictions including a ban on funeral receptions.
He further reiterated that all Covid-19 safety protocols outlined by the Ghana Health Service and the W.H.O still hold, including the wearing of facemasks, washing of hands, etc.
Speaking on the directive he said "what the President said is on point in a sense that we need to enforce the measures that we had and the protocols that we started with.
"We also need to put some punitive actions to it so that those who are not going by it would be punished."
He further advocated for education on the pandemic to be intensified since people doubt the existence of the virus.
"People have doubts because it hasn't happened to them or any of their relatives. So if we intensify education and also follow what the President is saying, I think the situation will be better in a few months to come" he added.
