Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has been named Chairman of the West Africa Gas Pipeline (WAGP).
He took over this role on July 12, from Nigeria’s Ibe Kachikwu, at the just ended meeting of WAGP Committee of Ministers in Abuja, Nigeria.
Addressing delegates after his appointment, Buah assured delegates of Ghana’s readiness to continue providing the needed leadership to ensure that the West Africa Pipeline Company (WAPCo) works effectively as envisioned by ECOWAS.
He further pledged to continue the good leadership of his predecessor and asked for support from all member countries.
Kofi Buah also called for the restructuring of WAPCo to make it more commercially viable and focused.
He also emphasised the need for all member countries to work together to strengthen WAPCo and expand the infrastructure to other countries within the sub-region.
“If our countries will develop, we have to plan and develop collectively," Mr Buah said.
“It is very necessary that we resolve our energy challenges together to ensure a constant supply of electricity in the sub-region” he stated.
The WAGP Committee of Ministers is made up of Energy Ministers from Ghana, Nigeria, Benin and Togo.
