The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), supported by officers of the National Security and the Ghana Police Service, continued its city-wide decongestion exercise on Wednesday, May 21, targeting the bustling Circle Neoplan area.
The operation, which marked day two of the enforcement campaign, aimed to restore order by removing unauthorised structures, displacing street vendors, and enforcing sanitation and traffic regulations.

Wednesday’s exercise uncovered a shocking site near Las Palmas, an area informally known to locals as “Lucifer Village.”
Hidden in plain sight, the enclave had been built over a large drainage gutter and included makeshift brothels, bars, and food joints, all operating illegally.

Officials described the discovery as a stark example of the lawlessness fueling congestion and health hazards in parts of the capital. The AMA says it is committed to restoring the area to a safe and hygienic condition.
The decongestion effort forms part of a broader campaign to reduce congestion, improve sanitation, and reclaim public spaces across Accra.

Below are photos from the operation, captured by Myjoyonline photojournalist Sammy Moore, who joined the task force on the ground.
