Environmental Health Inspectors of the Accra Metropolitan Authority are set to prosecute a man whose pig rearing activities are creating nuisance for his neighbours.
As part of their weekly environmental sensitization programme under the Joycleanghana Campaign, the Environmental Health Officers went to Kamara, a suburb of Accra, to educate people on hygiene and environmental sanitation in their homes and the community as a whole.
A food vendor who sells close to the pigsty complained about how stench emanating from the piggery drives her customers away.
The inspectors traced the offensive smell to a house where the pig farm is located and found about 50 pigs.
According to the neighbours they have been living with that pungent odor for the past 30 years.
They stated that all efforts to stop the man from operating the piggery in the area have proved futile.
In another development, a food vendor who was busily preparing food under unhygienic conditions was cautioned.
