The 2023 Asafotufiami Festival of the Chiefs and people of Ada in the Greater Accra region has ended with spectacular display of tradition, culture and heritage captivating the hearts of celebrants, revellers and tourists alike.
The annual festival, which was held in the Ada Traditional Area of the Greater Accra Region, showcased the rich customs and rituals aimed at preserving the essence of the Ga-Dangme people’s heritage.
The Asafotufiami festival was led by the Paramount Chief and President of the Ada Traditional Council, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III.
The festival, which spans several days, is a remembrance of ancient wars with neighboring tribes such as the Ewe.
The “Asafotu” are companies of warriors who fire their muskets in celebration.
As part of the celebration, warriors adorned in traditional regalia and carrying ancient weapons marched through the streets as a symbol of honour and respect to the ancestors who fought valiantly to protect their lands and preserve their way of life.
Present at the annual festival was President Nana Akufo-Addo, who was the special patron of the festival, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey and some prominent people to celebrate with the people of Ada.
