The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has arrived to a massive presidential ceremony at the Kotoka International Airport Thursday.
Dr Bawumia, beaming with smiles, touched down at exactly 8:00 pm on a British Airways flight after days of absence on sick leave in the United Kingdom.
He was welcomed by the President Nana Akufo-Addo and his wife Rebecca Akufo-Addo and other members of the government.
He was treated to rounds of hugs and handshakes from cabinet ministers and leading members of the government.

Dr Bawumia had been out of the country for 12 days on medical leave. He was said to have reported sick and was advised to take a break.
Details of the sickness were not disclosed.
On January 19, a statement was issued announcing the vice president was going to the UK on medical leave, a statement which triggered lots of speculations and controversy.

The Minority demanded full disclosure on the health status of the president and accused the government of covering up the true health status of the ailing vice president.
But the Information Minister Mustapha Hamid insisted the request by the Minority was untenable, insisting the health of every individual must remain a private issue.
While in London there were speculations about the deteriorating health of the vice president with some suggesting he had been paralyzed.

Not even a picture and video of a bubbly Bawumia and his wife Samira Bawumia taking a walk on London streets will stop the unhealthy rumours.
If anything, the speculations and rumours even went a notch higher with critics suggesting the pictures and videos were old and stale.
On Thursday, February 1, 2018, the presidency issued a statement saying the vice president was fit and arriving later in the day.
He has now and will take over as acting president tomorrow when the president leaves for Senegal, Joy News’ Latif Iddrisu reported.

Shortly after arrival, there was 15 minutes debriefing session held between the vice president, the president and some members of the government after which everybody departed.
According to Latif Iddrisu there were no party loyalists spotted at the arrival hall to welcome Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
