Over 25 journalists from the Volta, Oti, Northern, North East, Bono, and Greater Accra regions have gathered at the Airport West Hotel in Accra for a three-day media engagement session organised by Plan International Ghana.
The event, being held from June 24th to 26th, aims to deepen the media's understanding of the organisation’s projects and foster a collaborative relationship.
In his opening remarks, the Country Director of Plan International Ghana, Mr Constant Tchona, emphasised the importance of media engagement in amplifying the organisation’s impact. “Your presence here is a testament to the importance you place on the work we do and the stories we aim to tell,” he said, addressing the journalists.

Mr Constant Tchona said that Plan International, an independent development and humanitarian organisation, has worked in Ghana for over 30 years to support children's rights and promote equality for girls, adding that the organisation operates in northern and southern Ghana, focusing on improving child sponsorship in disadvantaged communities and mobilising resources through grant funding.
"We aim to influence national policymakers and traditional influencers by leveraging their reach, experience, and knowledge"he said.
“We strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. For us at Plan International, our work does not stop until we are all equal,” Tchona stated.
He outlined the organisation's current priorities, which include creating safe communities free from violence, ensuring access to quality, inclusive education, and supporting families to enhance their economic stability. These initiatives are designed to ensure that children can thrive in a supportive environment.
The media engagement session provides an opportunity for journalists to connect deeply with Plan International Ghana and learn about their ongoing projects.
Topics of focus include Girls' Empowerment, Water and Sanitation, Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Menstrual Health and Hygiene, Adolescent and Reproductive Health, Women Economic Empowerment, and Agribusiness.

Tchona highlighted the crucial role of journalists in shaping public perception and policy. “Your role as journalists is pivotal. You have the power to amplify voices, bring attention to critical issues, and influence change,” he noted.
He encouraged the journalists to actively participate, ask questions, and engage with the resource persons and community members present.
The session underscores the importance of media as allies in the quest for a more equitable and just society. Plan International Ghana aims to build a strong partnership with the media to ensure that the stories of the communities they serve are heard and that impactful change is realised.
The three-day event is expected to foster a collaborative relationship between Plan International Ghana and the media, benefiting all parties involved, especially the marginalised communities in Ghana.
