Following the revelation by the Norwegian newspaper VG of Ghana’s procurement of vaccine doses at $19 instead of the market price of $10, more controversy has been sparked by the Health ministry’s decision to procure 5 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccines at $26.

The Ghanaian-owned company, S. L. Global Limited, serving as the intermediary, delivers the vaccines in batches, one million doses each month until the fifth month when the country would have had enough doses for inoculation.

The agreement was that the purchase will not include transportation, storage and other charges; thus, the cost is likely to rise.

Following this reportage, the Minority in Parliament has called for a thorough investigation into the matter, indicating that the product's pricing is a rip off to the country.

The Minority caucus led by their leader, Haruna Iddrisu, yesterday, June 18, filed a motion for a bipartisan parliamentary probe into the procurement processes.

Also, Ghana has in recent times recorded a surge in daylight robberies.

This follows the recent activities of armed men who have attacked bullion vans, hijacked cars and robbed private enterprises in the country during the day with careless bravado.

For instance, on Wednesday, June 9, a man was shot in the stomach in a daylight robbery by two armed men at Pigfarm. He was pronounced dead 24 hours after being treated at the 37 Military Hospital.

The same day, two armed men also broke into a forex bureau near Honeysuckle in Osu. They stormed the structure near the Police Station and made away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Some workers sustained injuries and were admitted to the 37 Military Hospital. The culprits in these two incidents are currently at large.

Their activities have raised concern among the general public, with some security analysts demanding the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh.
